The City of Hamilton's Solid Waste Management Master Plan Review

The City of Hamilton recently finished a review of its Solid Waste Management Master Plan (SWMMP). The SWMMP and its recommendations, adopted by City Council in 2001, provided the blueprint for the City’s current residential solid waste management program, including blue box recycling, green cart organics, yard waste, household hazardous waste, garbage, and other items we dispose of from our home.

This review has resulted in an updated 2012 SWMMP, which outlines the City’s path forward in waste management for the next 25 years.

Get Involved

The programs the City implements to responsibly manage residential solid waste affect each and every resident of Hamilton. That’s why the City needs to hear your thoughts and opinions on waste management.  Are the waste management programs (garbage collection, blue box, green cart, household hazardous waste, etc) working for you? What changes and improvements can you suggest? How should the City move forward? Overview of the Process

The review process will include five key phases and run from July 2010 and to Winter 2012. Throughout the process, public consultation will be a key component.
